FAQ'S

Below are some of the regular questions we get asked but if you cannot find an answer here, please call us or leave a message via our contact form.

  • How do I arrange for an estimate for my forthcoming international removal?
Please call 07403 951366 – or email us at burrandcoremovals@gmail.com
  • When should I arrange for a quote?
It is never too early to contact a removals company when planning an overseas move. We recommend beginning your search at least 12 weeks prior to your move abroad – some customers choose to begin planning even a year in advance. When it comes to your international move, it is important not to leave planning until the last minute. However, sometimes this is unavoidable and our team is on standby to assist where possible.
  • What will the removals estimator tell me when he visits my home to assess the cost of my overseas move?
Our team of sales and service representatives is well-equipped to provide guidance on various aspects of your relocation, including route options, transportation methods, associated costs, packing prerequisites, crating solutions, transit durations, cargo protection, unpacking procedures, customs prerequisites, and potential storage arrangements at both origin and destination. It's important to bear in mind that while we strive to offer the latest customs advice, regulations and rules undergo frequent changes, and at times, these alterations may not be promptly communicated to us by the customs authorities. Consequently, we cannot assume liability for any losses incurred due to potential inaccuracies. During your consultation, our representative will thoroughly discuss the available shipping or air freight alternatives for your international destination. They will also provide an estimate of the volume and, if possible, the weight of your consignment. Additionally, they will go over the necessary paperwork and customs documentation. You will also receive information about our office or agent who will manage the transportation of your belongings from the arrival port to your new residence overseas, along with general advice pertinent to your move.
  • How do you calculate the cost of our removal?
The cost of your international move is based on the volume of goods you would like to ship, the freight rate for your particular destination, and what packing requirements are needed (ease of access etc). A full survey of your property, carried out by one of our International Moving Consultants, is required to accurately assess the volume of goods. The survey is also an opportunity to discuss your individual requirements and ask any questions you may have about your international move. If you know your volume, or have already had a quote from another moving company, simply email us with the details and we will aim to match or improve any quote.
  • Are all charges included in the price?
If you book your shipment as a door-to-door move then all charges, including customs clearance charges and local delivery to your residence (with normal access, not above first floor level), will be included in the estimate that’s given to you. However, you will still be responsible for any duty or tax that is raised on your shipment by Customs. There may also be further exclusions, which will be set out in our estimate which varies depending on the destination. These include quarantine examination and inspection fees, wharfage fees in some instances, and any rent / demurrage that may be incurred.
  • How do I determine the level of insurance cover that is required for my belongings in an international move?
You should think about what it would cost to replace your household goods and personal effects in the country of destination. A good source of information will be the local press in that country, especially with regard to high value items like motor vehicles. Cost of living data may also be obtainable from that country’s embassy. You should also look at your existing household policy as a guide. When completing your proposal form, please be as detailed as possible. Remember to include specific individual items that have a high replacement cost e.g. high value paintings, electronics etc. Though every care is taken to protect your belongings, your effects will be travelling a long way and also may be subject to customs examination/quarantine which can increase the risk of damage.
  • Will my shipment be opened before it arrives at my new house?
If it is a sole use-container, in most cases your shipment will be delivered to your new residence unopened. In some countries, for example Australia, all containers are unloaded for quarantine inspection. This is always carried out under the strict control of our destination partners. Customs officials reserve the right to inspect goods anywhere in the world at their discretion; therefore inspections are beyond our control.
  • How long will my shipment take to arrive at destination?
The transit time of an ocean shipment depends on the port of departure and port of arrival for full container loads. Vessel sailings are regularly scheduled and Burr & Co. Removal can provide estimated sailing departure dates. Please note that the departure dates are estimated; the actual departure can occur earlier or later than scheduled. For shipments being sent on a shared load basis, Burr & Co. Removals will include an estimated transit time for your destination with your international move quote. Ask your Surveyor at the time of survey for details on the type of shipments available and transit times.
  • When should I contact a removal company?
We advise you to contact removal companies to obtain quotes as soon as you know you are going to be relocating. Don’t leave this to the last minute!. Even if you don’t have a completion date on your house, it is still a good idea to contact removal companies in good time.
  • Can I pack myself?
Should you opt to handle the packing personally, we can furnish you with all the necessary materials. Nevertheless, we highly advocate for our expert packing service. Not only does this afford us the opportunity to offer a heightened level of protection for items we pack, but self-packed shipments may undergo intensified examination by customs authorities, potentially resulting in port delays and heightened costs
  • Do we need to empty drawers prior to the removal day?
No, drawers can remain packed with non-fragile items unless advised by our representative at the time of survey.
  • Do we need to empty wardrobes prior to the removal day?
No, we provide hanging garment boxes that can be filled on your removal day. These are provided as part of our service. Should you need to dismantle a wardrobe in advance of your move we can supply these in advance but it may incur an additional charge.
  • How much notice must I give to book a date for packing?
We recommend that you give a minimum of two weeks notice, although if this is not possible we will endeavour to meet your requirements. Ideally, as soon as you know when you want to move you should confirm dates with us.
  • Do you provide packing materials within the move price?
If your quote includes a full Burr & Co. Removals packing service, we will include the necessary materials in the move price. If you decide to undertake your own packing, materials can be supplied and the charge for any packing materials will be included in your quotation.
