Moving Tips

The process of relocating to a new home is a significant and potentially thrilling event in your life. At Burr & Co. Removals, we are committed to ensuring it is a seamless experience. We provide supplementary packing and storage services, as well as guidance, as needed. We trust that our compilation of Moving Tips will aid you in getting ready for this transition.

THINK ABOUT YOUR NEW HOME

Create a floor plan of your new residence. Should it be notably smaller than your present one, consider leaving certain items behind. By packing in accordance with your unpacking strategy for the new space, the moving-in process will be considerably smoother.

PREPARE AHEAD

When preparing for a house move, there are numerous tasks to coordinate in advance. Begin by creating a comprehensive checklist of necessary actions. Ensure you have an ample supply of packing materials and carefully consider which furniture and possessions you intend to take with you, as well as those you may need to leave behind. Additionally, if you have young children or pets, it's crucial to arrange for their care during the moving process.

GET STURDY,  PACKING SUPPLIES

While you may have already secured your new residence, kickstarting the moving process requires obtaining moving boxes and other essential packing materials. You have the option to select from a diverse array of high-quality boxes and packaging by reaching out to Burr & Co. Removals. Alternatively, you might opt to acquire moving boxes from local stores in your vicinity.

COMMUNICATING WITH YOUR MOVING COMPANY

It is essential to choose a moving company that is willing to help you whenever you need advice, and with whom you can communicate effectively. Establish the date of moving well ahead, do not be afraid to discuss anything you need to know, and confirm the removal again a few days before the moving day as well, to avoid any misunderstandings. At Burr & Co. Removals, we always aim to provide advice and information our customers need, so do not hesitate to contact us.

PACKING

You can either order full packing service from Burr & Co. Removals, which is highly recommended if you are moving abroad, or if you have many fragile and valuable items, or you can decide to pack yourself. If you will be packing yourself, you should start packing your items a few weeks before the moving day, and go through everything systematically. Label moving boxes clearly, and pack essential items only in the last few days. Don’t put too many or too few items into one box.

ACCESS FOR THE REMOVAL VAN

Think about how the removal van can access your current and future home, advise your neighbours that the van will be parking outside your house, and get any necessary permits.

WHAT TO AVOID PACKING

It is not an exhaustive list, but avoid packing paints, gas cylinders, highly flammable products, oils, weapons, bleach and perishables/frozen foods.

WEIGHT OF BOXES

This one requires a little bit of common sense, for example – avoid filling a large box full of books. As a rule, if you can lift it, we will be able to carry it.

MARKING UP

To help you when you come to unpacking your boxes, it is important to mark on each and every box the general contents and which room they came from. This way you will be able to find key items and help ensure unpacking is as efficient as possible. Label all boxes containing china and glass with “fragile”.

DO NOT PACK PERSONAL DOCUMENTS, JEWELLERY AND MONEY

You might need these items during the removal, or while they are in storage. Don’t pack items that you will need right after you move in, or always keep track of where you are putting them.
